Default London Jobs to be cut at Brent Council

The job losses continue it seems, despite the few bits of good news that I have seen recently! Brent Council are to cut 10% of thier work force - This is to try and save £50million by 2014!

These job cuts are going to be made in order to stream line services & make them more efficient! For the first time it seems the cuts are going to start at management level! 50 Management Jobs will be the first to go this year! This will then be followed by an additional 250 jobs, which will go over the next few years!

They say the job cuts will be mad eover four years, this is to try and change the council for the better!

As well as the cuts in staffing they plan to vacate 14 properties by 2013! The majority of the staff from these properties will be moving to the new Civic Centre opposite Wembley Stadium!

The whole point of this is to be able to think like one organisation & cur the waste, Bureaucracy and dupliaction according to the chief exec Gareth Daniel!

Although I can see some very giood points to this move I do wonder about all of those people that will be looking for London Jobs as a result of the cuts being made!

I suppose a better, more efficient council cannot be gained without some draw backs though?!

Lets just see if it does improve it in any way though.....

Hi Sally

Thats awful, you think that jobs in the public sector are much safer given the current market but it seems that noone is safe! I appreciate that councils do need to be more efficient (particularly given the size of my council tax!) and a massive cost saving to any organisation is looking at job roles and assessing whether roles can be amalgamated.

Unfortunately it comes at a time where there are already a number of unemployed, having said that middle management will probably find it a little easier to find positions as the market is improving and hopefully the market will have stablised more by the time the 250 go.

It is horrible isn't it? I mean most people see the government jobs as a stable thing don't they? Then for this to happen?

I think it is brilliant that threy are re-organising thier councils as I am sure we have all had the experiance of going around and around in circles with issues and getting no real answers before! But at a time like this - you are right it is harder for people to go straight back into work!

I like you hope that these people lose thier jobs when the economy nis doing slightly better so they have a better chance of getting back into work - now would not be a good time!

Also I was thinking - what of all these buildings they are planning to vacate! Would they not be left there empty for ages! I mean who has the money right now? Or perhaps they will knock them down to build more flats???? Hehe!

This goes to show that everyone should do their best at work. Earn your keep. This could be a good thing - not the cutting of jobs but the job scare where everyone plays their part.

I wish, the weather sucks here at the moment...

Nothing scary, just curious, I run quite a few community sites like this and little things like that often raise a little eyebrow so to speak...

What on earth is there to do in SA for 3+ months on your extended holiday?

Lucky Janine! On holiday for this long! What do you have family there or something? I would love to be able to get out of here for that long!

Like Mr Admin guy says the weather totally sucks here right now! Its grey and rainy etc etc! Horrible!

Although I must say the weather hasn't got that bad yet - but its only a matter of time though really isn't it! UNFORTUNATELY! LOL

I agree with what your saying Janine about earning your keep! I mean I do find that when dealing with councils is so tiresome - when do you actually get an answer of the first person that you dealt with? They pass you from pillar to post - so yes unforunately there will be some job cuts through this process but hopefully being housed in the same building and having some restructuring will make them more efficient?

I know its wishful thinking so I won't hold my breath though haha!

I am originally from SA, my entire family is here and I travel from sibling to sibling. I always come over for a yearly visit but seeing as I got sacked there is nothing rushing me back. Currently I'm renting my apartment out until I figure out my next move.
But to answer your question, there is heaps to do. The sun is out and I'm helping my sister set-up her own business in interior decorating. Fun!
