Default All the new jobs in London for Olympics might be permanent

Hi there

Okay I know I seem obsessed with jobs but its because all I do all day is look for jobs hehe but I don’t mean to be rude, but is the London Olympics logo the final product? If it is, oh my word, if it’s not…thank goodness!

I can’t get over it. Every time I see it I keep thinking that someone is making a joke. The Olympics will be doing so much for London, surely someone could create something pretty. There must be something I am missing because I have no creative bone in my body so I’ll stop bad mouthing it now.

On a positive note, apparently the jobs in London that will be created due the Olympic Games are set to be permanent or at least the boom will last longer than the event. Most of the Olympic jobs will be created in catering and hospitality and I truly hope it won’t only be temp. Imagine how crap it will be if you’ve worked your bum off during and then get sacked the moment the event is over and there isn’t a need for you anymore?

Recruiter Mag seems to think that the boom will continue after the event if we use the opportunity that we will be broadcasted to 4 billion people wisely…
How on earth will they do that?

Cheers
Janine

I guess catering and hospitality will be one of the biggest sectors boosted from it - after all the tourists have to eat! Who else do you think will benefit? Do you think they will do a lot of shopping whilst in London?
I reckon a lot of the attractions will see an increase in visitors too. London has a lot to see - I am sure the 'big' attractions will benefit.

Do you really think that these jobs will last? There will be a huge surge of extra customers but after the Olympics end they will all disappear. Will they need all these extra workers if there is less work?

Yes, I think shops will surely benefit. I doubt if people who travel all the way to London to watch the games and return home without spending a dime…And surely shops will have stunning specials on to make the most of the opportunity. I too think people will visit all the “must-see” places and do a bit of travel in and around London. At least that is what I would do if it were me.
I don’t mean to be sceptical, but I can’t see how these new jobs, “Olympic jobs” as they say will last. It’s like high season and low season. A restaurant might not sack their Olympic add-ons but you won’t get as many shifts and eventually you’ll have to sack yourself to move on to a better location.

I truly want this article to prove to be true…I just don’t know…

Janine lets hope this is true as it would be such a shame if it wasn't!

Anything that creates more jobs is welcome in my eyes! I know a few people that have lost thier jobs and it is so hard to find a decent job right now! Its horrible out there!

I think all the tourists is a good thing as business will boom in all areas from catering and hospitality-transport-retail etc etc.... It should be a good time for London!

I like you am also hoping the logo they have unveiled thus far is not the final product! What went wrong there???? And how much money was it???? What a waste!!!!!!

I see there are more in the news about "Olympic jobs" that might be interesting to you guys:
Sebastian Coe: London 2012 on course to realise Olympic goals - Telegraph

I find it strange that he even needs to explain the potential. But I still just hope all the efforts won't be for nothing. Will we make more money than we have spent?
But luckily in a time when it isn't raining jobs this project is giving tons of people hope!
