Default Extra Jobs at the Royal Mail to cut the impact of strikes?

I can’t believe all of this strike stuff is still happening at the Royal Mail. It looks like no one is backing down here and chaos is sure to follow.

What I have read though is that Royal Mail are taking on 30,000 extra temps to cover seasonal rush and backlog of work! What this makes me wonder is, are the jobs at Royal Mail at risk if they carry on like this?

TNT, the UK’s largest privately owned mail firm is apparently looking to be allowed to put its postal workers on the streets if the strikes do happen! Is this not a warning for Ryoal Mail – someone is there and more than ready to takes it place?

What do you think of all this?

Don't get me started on strikes... I don't believe in them - the postal workers in SA was on strike as well so guess how long it took for my post to be forwarded here? (In South Africa the army striked the other day...how crazy is that?)
I caught an article the other day, I'm not sure if it was on Managment Today...but it was definitely something I am subscribed to, and they said advertisers are pulling their ads due to the strike.
I'm sure there is plenty of ads that were time specific and was lost due to mags not going out when they need to etc.

And it just shows you - now Royal mail will have to spend extra money to employ extra help....
I find it ironic, it is recession and yet people like to waste money!!!

Did I just read it wrong or did you just say the Army went on strike in South Africa? How can they do that?

I see what your saying about advertisers pulling out in certain publications etc though - it makes sense doesnt it, why advertise somewhere where your ad will not be seen? The job doesnt get done so its pointless and a waste of money would you not agree?

The problem with the ROYAL FAIL is that there are so many companies there just waiting for the opportunity to step in, its quite scary really - this could lose them so much work!

Where I work they have been looking at alternatives and getting some quotes this week so god only knows what larger companies are doing?

Also yes you are complete right about them hiring extra staff - where has the money come from for this? Its all shambles if you ask me!

I think its terrible especially refuse workers and such as what happens when they are not working? Not good realyl is it? Probably get rat infested streets instead!

Why don't they all just come to some agreement and stop being so dammed petty!

Not a pretty sight to see... garbage strewn all over the streets the garbage by the houses are the worst though the dogs get into the bags and rip everything to pieces not to mention the stench that comes from it all, its hideous actually and i dont even want to think of all the germs that go with it laying all over the place YUK.

Its kinda stupid if you ask me judging by the amounts of garbage they have to clean up when they eventually go back to work, would not want to be one of them
